RtBrick, the next-generation routing software reshaping telecom networks globally, announced it has added timing and synchronization support to its disaggregated edge routing software, making it possible to achieve sub-microsecond time and phase synchronization across IP networks.
These features precisely timestamp packets as they are sent and received, enabling accurate clock synchronization.
Accurate timing is critical for use-cases such as mobile networks, industrial automation and financial trading. Today’s advancement overcomes a previous challenge, where operators could only implement accurate timing across their broadband networks by using proprietary routing hardware or adding external systems.
RtBrick’s timing features will initially be available on UfiSpace’s S9600-72XC and S9600-102XC open switches, both powered by Q2C chipsets from Broadcom. UfiSpace partnered with RtBrick to bring its hardware engineering expertise to the project. The timing feature-set includes support for:

Adding timing to the existing rich set of features available in a disaggregated network fills in another piece of the puzzle for operators looking to reduce their costs and increase their flexibility. Now, RtBrick is delivering an even deeper feature-set at its multiservice edge.
Hannes Gredler, CTO and founder at RtBrick
Our collaboration with UfiSpace shows how the disaggregated ecosystem can deliver open solutions that cost less and are developed much faster than ones from traditional proprietary networking vendors. At this point, service providers should recognize that they are being held back by the limits of traditional legacy routers, even though more flexible and cost-effective software options now have all the features they may need.
